Blue-crowned Manakin
The Blue-crowned Manakin is a Passeriforme of the family Pipridae.
Characteristics
It measures about 9 cm long. The male has two distinctive plumages depending on the region:
- black with a blue crown in Costa Rica, Venezuela and Brazil from the Rio Negro to the Rio Juruá;
- olive-green with blue crown in Brazil from the rivers Madeira and Purus to the west of Peru and Bolívia.
In other areas the plumages are intermediary. The female is olive-green above with a greenish-yellow throat and yellowish belly.

Habits
Varia de incomum a localmente comum no estrato baixo de florestas densas e capoeiras maduras. Tem o hábito de realizar vôos curtos em vaivéns. Permanece oculto no interior da floresta, sendo sua presença mais facilmente detectada pela vocalização.
Distribution
Presente na região oeste da Amazônia, estendendo-se para leste até os rios Negro (ao norte do Rio Amazonas) e Madeira (ao sul). Encontrado também na Costa Rica, Panamá, Colômbia, Venezuela, Equador, Peru e Bolívia.
